Away

North Norfolk, you were kind to me.

The air, the light, and the renewed perspective. A few away days on annual leave were a feast. The locals spot you and smile begrudgingly at the thought of sharing.

Sometimes you don’t see people for miles and miles. Especially on Mondays. Old people really do love to sit at the coastline and watch the view.

The Norfolk Coastal Path is stunning. When the sky is big, thoughts are renewed, and the heart is kindled again. Between seven and eleven miles, each day was a surprising tonic. The paths are best when they’re flat! Dogs are consistently excitable by the seaside. Overheard conversations are intriguing, if surprisingly domestic.

Books are wonderful companions. I read, journaled, reflected, and discovered. New things and much that needed to be revisited. I encountered God and others in grace moments, unspoken inflections, and caring offbeat gaze. I was held in unexpected ways and reminded of my dust in others.

I walked and was met. I walked and was eerily alone.

I still do steps, reluctantly. Creation goodness is very good. Inhale. Exhale. It wants to do a job on us.

Retreating to advance is a thing. I am thankful.

“I have nothing else fit for a King… except for a heart that sings Hallelujah!”
